1967年，20岁还没有姑妈迹象的 Elton John 在报纸上看到一家唱片公司征集歌曲作者的广告。可惜他只会谱曲所以没有通过面试，不过当时面试官递给了他一个信封，里面是另一位应征者写的歌词，而这位17岁的 Bernie Taupin 正好只会写词。

于是两个年轻人趁势开始了合作，其后他们一起创作出了许多脍炙人口的经典歌曲，例如《Rocket Man》和《Candle in the Wind》。而这首1970年发行的《Your Song》就是他们的成名曲。旋律简单却直击人心，歌词细腻真挚，被乐评家誉为一首近乎完美的情歌。
